Grrrr....I knew I shouldn't have read this! I've been fighting a virus and ended up not going to the race. I have been very bummed about it (the 2003 Crowder's Mt was my first ultra. Great report- although I'm even more disappointed I missed it now. Glad things ended up well for you.

Thanks for the race report... really wanted to run this one and make it my first ultra but some serious knee issues got in the way of my training about a month ago. Although the exact route was unknown I had been out to Crowders a few times (running from the visitors center to the SC state line and back via Ridgeline & of course the infamous up crowders and back down). Really looking forward to this race next year (just hope I can find info on it on the web ;)

Good report and good race Christian. I was a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I figured that the EMT were talking about me to each other because of their increasingly urgent questions regarding my well-being. It strated as "Are you OK?" and them progressed at the next station to "Are you sure you're OK?" and then to "Please say you are OK!!" to "Please, please tell me what your name is and where you are!"

It wasn't that bad, actually but I faded so horribly that they were certainly concerned. Chalk up another finish and now time for redemption at Promise Land. See you at LV and then at CCC!

Great report Christian! One of your best. And you ran one heckuva good race. Congrats on the 3rd place finish, and kudos on a job well done.

Great race report on Crowders Mtn! Congrats on coming in 3rd place. Man, you have no idea how upset I am that I could not run that race. After Delano I developed a pain in the back of my right knee that went away if I didn’t run. I took a week off before the ING and the pain went away, but came back during the race. I decided to not run again till I everything checks out. Getting an MRI tomorrow.

You talked about your training in the ING blog and it working. Do you mind sharing with me what your training schedule looks like getting ready for a hundo?

Nice job! I was a pacer at Umstead, but I've wanted to run this race for the past couple of years. I have run there a couple of times & from your report, can't quite picture the exact route. Those are some tough trails! ...and you're right, coming down the gravel road with those speed bumps off the mountain is the worst part! Ugh!

Great Job Christian. Thanks for the props in your write-up! ;) I may not be "old" but I identify more with the "old school." You see I've had the good fortune to start my running / ultra-running largely pre-Internet. I've seen a lot of things change because of the Internet, some good some bad... it's just different these days. All in all I much preferred the thrill of going into events without having a lot of "beta" about the course. BTW, if you like Ray K's approach you'd love the way our own Huntsville Track Club runs its many low key road races, recycled race numbers, low entry fees and real minimal aid. Glad you had fun; boy you sure are doing a lot!
